After the Cyclone - finding resilience in a changing world

It's been a few weeks now since the cyclone Gabrielle devastated the region I live in. This has been a life-changing experience and has had me wondering about how we find balance and resilience in a changing world. How do life changes and transitions, both internal and external act as catalysts for a deeper way of being?

This episode of The Soul Garden explores how to navigate through events such as this and how we may help create love, resilience and compassion in a changing world.

It hasn’t been easy preparing this episode. I’ve learned about survivor guilt over the past few weeks and how it moves through a community and takes up residence in the conscience. It can make us mute and uncertain. I recorded several attempts to make an episode, but scrubbed each one because of that guilt and because of the enormity of processing what had happened to this region, to friends and neighbours when cyclone Gabrielle struck on 13 February.

I found that in the weeks following the cyclone I needed to draw on every bit of my own being, and every bit of ancient wisdom and nature connection I had to get me through the trauma that is shared by a community when a life-changing event happens. And that got me thinking.

And gradually I found myself thinking about how life changing events can be catalysts for change. And that we can do things to help ourselves find a way through them. Build resilience. Grow love. Deepen compassion.

Midlife transitions can also be agents for change.

In midlife we can find ourselves wondering ‘what if ?’ Our life landscape starts to shift. It may be that relationships are ending or beginning. Children may be flying the nest, parents start needing our care. Dealing with illness among family and friends becomes more common. We may have achieved much in our career but somehow we are feeling empty on the inside. Or we may be harbouring dreams of new ways of being, but can’t quite gather the courage to be that person, that true authentic self.

Menopause is a key transition for midlife women, and we’ve been conditioned to fear it; to see it as an ending. But what if we saw it as a beginning instead? What if we could change our relationship with midlife so that it empowers us?

Our world is changing too, and this can make us feel powerless and scared. But what if we found a way to become more resilient, and to consciously contribute to making the world a better place? What if we were able to turn fear into compassion? Paralysis into action?

And so I got to work creating a new offering.

Earth Medicine for the (midlife) Soul is a very special nine week programme to help the midlife woman cultivate a deeper way of being and show up in this changing world with love, resilience and compassion. It helps bring the desires of the soul into being which helps us nurture our true and authentic self.

We’ll draw on the wisdom of ancient mystics and renaissance philosophers, the healing power of nature and the menopause transition to birth ourselves into our midlife being. I’ve prepared for us weekly talks, meditations and guided visualisations, self-directed exercises so we can get to the gold the lies within us.

Are you ready to come with me on this journey? We’ll be able to start very soon (May 2023).

You can find more info about it here.
